SHIPWRECK POST OFFICE HAS OPENED
On the 19th of March 2006, The Reef Dive Resort at Mataking Island, has celebrated the opening of the first underwater post office with sinking of ¡§MATAKING 1¡¨.

With replay of titanic scene, over 40 participants including editors, people from the press and international guests and most enlightening ship wreck party, the ship is being sank according to plan in a most memorable manner as never seen before. Resort Manager, Mr. Adrian Van Dooren highlighted that this is the First for Malaysia and will attract a lot of divers who like to put some fun diving. He is very proud of his project team members and staffs for all their great efforts and valuable contribution. There was a special dinner evening with lucky draws and performances by our staff, followed by a ¡§shipwreck party¡¨.

¡¥MATAKING 1¡¨ is an old 40 foot wooden cargo ship used 4 years ago when The Reef Dive Resort was first build. The ship has not been used since and it was decided to float it and sink it at their famous house reef near the front of the resort. This will create an artificial reef, which will attract many tropical reef fishes. The wreck will become a home for other incredible marine creatures, which are plentiful abound, in the clear tropical waters surrounding this spectacular island. A mail box is placed on the wheel house of this new ship wreck. Now divers can ¡§post¡¨ their letters and post cards underwater. A special rubber stamp was designed to depict this unique postal service. The mail box will be cleared two times a week.
